June 9th, 2020 – Long Beach, CA – This June brought incredible offshore fishing for Bluefin tuna. Recent fishing reports consistently showed limit-style fishing for bluefin tuna and good numbers of yellowtail holding on kelp paddies. The anticipation for a great trip aboard the Phenix Rods June 2020 tuna charter on the Apollo was through the roof. especially with Owner/operator Capt. Jodie Morgan at the helm with his savvy crew in tow.

Through the trip, we slid by some nice size kelp patties. There we stopped to cast out and pick up some 15-25lb yellowtail. Our anglers saw the most success fishing with our longer Black Diamond series rods which helped them place their baits near the kelp in the strike zone. We made a few runs to ensure we filled the hold with more good-sized yellows and then targeted tuna.

The trip saw some heavy action for bluefin tuna from 25 – 100+ lbs. Even though they were hesitant to chew, the bite seemed to turn on late in the afternoon. We were able to land a good number of bluefin tuna for a strong total for the trip.
