July 3rd, 2020 – San Diego, CA – With the Bluefin tuna bite heating up, the passengers of the Phenix rods July Red, White, and Bluefin charter geared up for an epic trip. Upon exiting the harbor boundaries Capt. Alex Napidad played out the game plan for the trip. We were going all-in for trophy-sized bluefin tuna.

Arriving to the grounds where the jumbo bluefin were sighted, we stopped on a few loaded kelp paddies to put some yellowtail in the hold.

As dusk fell heavy sonar marks revealed big fish were definitely around, the excitement was peaking as we began rigging our Phenix rail rods for battle. Then it started, before we knew it we had multiple hookups on bluefin from 40 to over 220 pounds! The new Phenix Axis rail rods made quick work of the bluefin allowing anglers multiple fish during the peak of the bite. Dana Rosen of Oceanside landed her personal best bluefin taping at over 220lbs. Congratulations Dana!
